Savage Art Journal Page

Savage Art Journal Page

Hey hey Roadies!

I have a long but simple tutorial to show you all how I created this art journal page using stamp sets Single and Savage along with #BeautifulMess, Boo Crew and Break Up.

First, I gesso-ed my pages just enough, making sure I could still see some text showing through. This is just a hard cover book from the Dollar Tree that I bought specifically to art in. The pages hold up well usually, but to make sure, I glued the pages behind to them to make them a bit sturdier.

Next I diecut a pattern from Sizzix in to a scrap of black cardstock.

I made sure to keep the diamonds that were cut incase I wanted to add them as well.

Next I went to work on my cards. They were slick and shiny, so yo make sure things would stick to them, I first sanded them. Front and back.

After that I went through this small dictionary (also from the Dollar Tree) and found two definitions that went with my pages theme. I used a glue stick in blotches on the card faces and stuck them to the backside of the definitions that I wanted to show.

I wanted to keep "royal" on this one and "heir" intact, so once they were dried completely, I gently tore back the rest of the page.

If parts came up that I didn't want to, I simply used the glue stick again to make sure that they wouldn't come up.

Next I figured out where on the page I wanted my cards and stamped the wreath from # BeautifulMess onto my background.

Then, I added hearts from the Break Up set to the background.

After that I grabbed the words Savage and Overqualified all over my background as well.

I love the ghost stamping over the faded out text!

To add some color to my background I sprayed it with glitter mists from Recollections in red and black, spraying water as well to get them to blend.

I dabbed up my first coat with a paper towel, then sprayed the page again, this time sprinkling salt and sugar on it to see what would happen.

I let this layer dry almost completely before I dabbed some pigment up.

I love they effect of the salt and sugar!

My cards were looking a little stark compared to the background so I grabbed some ink and distressed them a bit.

Then I stamped out my quote and heat embossed it onto grey cardstock.

To give my Queen a little more emphasize I went back to the #BeautifulMess set and heat embossed her a flower crown in silver.

After that I tore up my diamond diecut and glued it around the edges of my spread. I adhered my cards toy background but wanted them to stand out more so I went around them first with a paint pen, but that looks too neat. So next I tried using a shimmery brust pen in black, but the color kept pooling up. So lastly I tried these metallic paint sticks from Daiso and smeared it around the two cards.

I wanted the cards to feel like they were being overtaken by the page so I went to the diecut diamond that I saved and glued them around the cards.

I wanted a little extra something on the background and to spread out some silver so I embossed a few little leaves from the #BeautifulMess around the page.

I grabbed "Stay" from Boo Crew and Savage from Single and Savage and heat embossed it in silver as well. I tried adding some details in white gel pen around some of the diecuts but it want showing up very well.

To finish off my spread I glued my quote over my cards.

I think all the background texture came out perfect and I love this quote!
