Mondays: with Brianna French

Mondays: with Brianna French

Today I am sharing a card that was so much fun to make.  In the 'Mondays' stamp set the sentiment that popped out to me the most was "Just Another Manic Monday". I thought of my sister-in-law and how "adulting" is super hard for her.  She was part of the interior design world for about a year and the entire time all of her stories she would tell would seem extremely manic to me.

For some reason I kept thinking about the dizzying effect the old-timey 3D pictures would have, with and without the red and blue paper glasses. (I may be showing my age a bit if you have no idea what I am talking about)  I wanted to try and create a background using this type of effect.  I had never seen this done before or if it was even a thing.  I just knew that I wanted to use a raspberry pink/red color, a bright yellow and a light blue/green color.  I also knew that I needed to offset each line from one another to create that iconic 3D effect.  My first try at this failed.  I used a stencil and traced the pattern, then I used markers to try and create the 3D effect as I saw it in my minds eye.  It bombed.  It just didn't look good, it was too distracting and not subtle enough for a background.  So, onto plan 'B'.

This time, using the same stencil, I used distress ink in the colors I needed and blended the ink using a blending brush.  I started with yellow, then moved the stencil ever so slightly to the right and up a little bit and then used the pink/red color the same way as I did with the yellow.  Finally, I moved the stencil ever so slightly to the right and then down some and again used the blue/green ink as I did with both of the prior colors.  The final outcome was exactly as I had intended!  I LOVED IT!

Now that I had my background, I decided to use a little dark humor and I chose the 'prescription pill bottle' and the 'hand holding a martini' from the Karen: Vol 1 stamp set.  I used a waterproof black ink and once stamped onto white watercolor paper I painted each image and then fussy cut them.  Using foam double stick tape I positioned the images to my liking .

For the sentiment "Just Another Manic Monday" I used the same ink colors as I used for the background.  With an acrylic block I first stamped with yellow on white card stock.  Then, stamped with red, then blue and finally black.  Each time I stamped I would shift the words just a bit to create the psychedelic dizzy feeling you get when looking at the words.

I found the perfect colors of card stock in my collection and used two layers to create my border and adhered all of them onto a blue A2 note card.  Likewise, I created a border around the sentiment and then using foam double stick tape adhered the sentiment in the upper half of the card.

Finally, I carefully added some iridescent  gems for necessary bling!

On the inside I wanted to shed some light on my rather dark card front, so I chose "Punch (fist) today in the face" from the 'Mondays' stamp set.
