Home Sweet... Home Office
Share
Hey hey, all! Welcome back to another crafty day with ya girl, Carol. I'm so excited to be sharing this project I made using the Home Office Builder stamp set. I will admit, this was my very first time creating a full scene, so I decided to go all in and have as much creative fun as I could. I only used the one stamp set, which is more than enough once you see the finished piece!
Let's jump in! Here is the finished product!
So, because there are so many steps involved with this, I'm going to jump into the steps, and give detail where I feel might be necessary. I don't share the marker color combinations, and I'll show you why at the end! Stay tuned.
Step 1: Gather materials.
For this, I used blank layering paper, and masking paper, as well as my stamp positioner.
STEP 2: Stamp your images on your masking paper.
Here, I stamped the biggest images that I knew I would have to mask off, plus one extra. I thought I was going to need it for the board, but ended up changing my plans.
STEP 3: Fussy cut your masked images.
STEP 4: Stamp the foreground FIRST.
So, what's going to be at the very, very front? Stamp that sucker first, THEN mask, then stamp everything else. That's the magic of layering. Mask what's in front. So, here you can see my chair was first, then my desk.
STEP 5: Fill everything else in!
You can see I already stamped the board, and the shelves. I stamped the potted plant, and masked it. All the little bits and bobs didn't need to be masked, so I just placed those where they felt right.
STEP 6: The sentiment!
Normally, I'm not shy about cutting my stamps, but this one was so small, I didn't want to risk it. So, instead, I did the sensible and humane thing: masked that, too!
Don't forget to take the tape off in between stamping and inking.*
STEP 7: Ground your image.
Like I said before, I have zero experience with creating a scene....for cards, that is. ;) So, I played around with the image a little bit. For the flooring, I ultimately decided to switch the direction of the plank flooring, and I definitely feel like that did a world of difference.
STEP 8: COLOR! and add highlights.
There was no rhyme or reason to my coloring. I didn't have a structure. I didn't have a plan. I also kind of did it in a speedy way because I had my 2 year old in the same room as me, and she likes to get into things, or throw tantrums so I was working on borrowed time.
I used alcohol markers, but if I had to redo this, I would have preferred colored pencils. I added highlights using a white gel pen. I also added black lines to the flooring with black gel pen to really make the floor come together with the rest of the image. In retrospect, I should have added highlights to the rug.
BONUS STEP: Mourn the loss of your marker organization.
This is why I can't have nice things.
