I am back on the Ink Road Stamps blog with a snarky spin on a classic card. This fun birthday card combines two of my favorite things: the f-bomb (thanks to the HFB Vol 2 stamp set) and Nuvo shimmer powder!
This stamp set is perfect if you like to make cards for your snarky friends. I wanted the sentiment to be the star, so I stamped on watercolor paper with hybrid ink that can handle pretty much any medium you throw at it. I knew I wanted to use shimmer powder to create an explosion of color around the sentiment, and I didn't want to clean off heat embossed letters and risk smudging the background.
I sprinkled a mix of Sunray Crossette and Cherry Bomb over the watercolor paper. Using a dry paintbrush, I went over the sentiment gently to break up any clumps of powder. Next was the fun part: misting the card with water and watching the powder activate! To create the fun bursts of color you see below, mist lightly. You can always add more water, but excess water will soften the colors, ultimately leading to a solid blend of color. Use a paper towel to gently blot away any excess water (or lift pigment, if you find it is too concentrated).
When I was happy with my background, I let it air dry before stamping over the sentiment again. The shimmer powder dried over the sentiment and left a coat of shimmer that made the sentiment look dull. I didn't heat emboss and couldn't wipe the letters off, but never fear! I left my stamp in the stamp positioner for this very reason--no guesswork! I simply popped the panel into the positioner, re-inked, and stamped. Now the sentiment stands out in sharp black with shimmer all around.
To offset the prominent pink, I used bright yellow glitter paper to mat the panel, then mounted the front to a black cardbase. Since the background is bold and busy without additional embellishments, that completes this not-quite-clean but simple card.
