Its Majestic alright!

December 28, 2017

Samantha here, and I’m so excited to share this card with you today! It’s not exactly what I had planned for the Ink Road Stamps Majestic AF  stamp set – At first I thought rainbows, white, and glitter. I even thought I’d get a chance to do some colouring, or some ink blending…create this magical rainbow background…but when I got everything ready and started stamping I just wasn’t feeling it. Call it crafters block! It happens…even to the best of us!

So what does one do when they have no ideas and a dead line approaching…First, I grabbed some chocolate, but after this I decided to check out what the other girls on the ink road design team have done with this stamp set. I also did a Pinterest search (generic search for Unicorns). It came up with rainbows and glitter, lots of pink and purples…and CAKE! But nothing helpful to unblock my block!

I then saw Mary’s (DT) awesome scrapbook page she completed for October’s Friday Feature (with free cut file!).  Here is the link to her post, so you can check it out (and grab that free file!). Again, I didn’t really know what I was going to do with the cut file. I did resize it to fit a 5.5inch x 4.25inch card front and I cut it out using black card thinking I could use it as a stencil…but once it was cut the thought of a black unicorn sounded awesome!

Here is my black unicorn card:

I didn’t stop there – I created two more cards using the same cut file! It’s been awhile since I’ve done paper piecing, there was quite a bit of tracing, cutting and gluing involved and I could see how a bigger unicorn would have been easier (and quicker) to complete. But, I had fun mixing and matching paper (vellum, even washi tape) that I normally wouldn’t have  put together and all of the paper I did use came from those scrap pieces of paper that for some reason never gets used up…

Once the unicorn cut outs were all paper pieced I matched them up with co-ordinating card fronts.  My background was created by stamping the stars and circles from the Majestic AF stamp set which I then heat embossed, again, in a colour that matched each card.  I also heat embossed each sentiment on black card stock – I really liked how the gold and silver pop on dark cardstock and I finished each card off with sequins.

Here is the final unicorn card, in white:

The black unicorn card is my favourite – and I LOVE the quote:  “Happiness is a form of courage.”  It was completely unintentional when I put them together, but when I look at the card it reminds me that being different isn’t a bad thing. It means you’re brave enough to be yourself!

Which one do you like best?  Do you ever get crafter’s block and what’s your solution to unblock and find your groove?
