I’m a craft supplies hoarder. If you’re reading this, so are you. I love us just the way we are! But let’s face it – we don’t use all of our pretty stickers, paper, sequins, and ephemera that are SUPPOSED to be used to make an explosion of awesome combined. I’m not an expert but I still wanted to make pretty things, so I needed a SYSTEM – to stop hoarding and start making.
It’s been a good 4 years of craft supply hoarding for me, and I recently did a cleanse. My rules were pretty simple. DON’T KEEP IT IF YOU DON’T LOVE IT. If I had to take a second to think “hmm what can I use this for??”… it went to the donate pile. This set me up for the most productive week of creating in my life (THIS WEEK YAAAASSSS).
I pulled out my supplies and started to make 3×4 Project Life cards because this is the scrapbooking format I use the most. (I also do 6×8 pages here and there.)
Everything I pulled out was MY FAVORITE THING, because that’s all I kept in my stash. Every bit is PERFECT. When I went to combine them, my cards turned out exactly how I imagined because they were just a combination of all my favorite things.
My favorite things:
- Pretty paper (I spent an afternoon cutting down almost ALL my 12×12 scrapbook paper to 3×4)
- 3D stickers (or make ANY sticker 3D with foam tape)
- Phrase stickers
- Glue stick (or literally any kind of glue you want)
- Sharp scissors
My favorite methods to create interest and dimension are foam tape, ripped/torn paper edges, and vellum.
(Real talk: it took me forever to love my own style. Just because it isn’t beautiful like someone else’s project doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful like MINE.)
Last tip: pick ONE thing from you stash and let it inspire your whole project. I’m obsessed with these terrarium stickers from The Paper Studio (carried at Hobby Lobby)… so I let them steer my brain for a handful of cards and it went pretty well I think!
