Creating Custom Die Cuts with Kira

June 30, 2018

Hey everyone!  It’s Kira and I am back with a 12×12 scrapbook layout featuring the Bork stamp set!

I know I had to use this stamp set on a layout about my dog, Folsom.  Folsom is my 11 1/2 year old yellow lab.  And in this photo he’s chewing on a stick.  This may seem kind of mundane to most, but Folsom has never been a stick dog.  He’s never chased them, chewed them, given them a second thought.  Then he moves down to Texas and all he does is chase sticks the kids throw for him and chew them in the shady grass.  So weird.

Anyway, I decided to start this layout with some photo strip cut files.  I sized them so the little Bork dogs would fit nicely in the frames.  I cut two frames the same size, one would be filled with dogs, the other would serve as a base for my photo of Folsom.

If you haven’t heard, I recently jumped on the Copics bandwagon.  My husband even bought me a few more for Mother’s Day.  I’m not great at coloring yet (so don’t judge!) but these dogs were perfect practice for me.  After coloring quite a few puppies, these three made the final cut.  I fussy cut around each pup, leaving a thin white border as if they were cut with a die cut machine.

I knew the photo frames needed to be backed with something, either patterned paper or stamping, well, clearly stamping won.  I did a technique I love doing, creating a pattern with a phrase stamp.  I used the phrase “Excuse me?  Are you gonna eat that?” from the Fur Babies stamp set.  I stamped it in various colors on some scrap smooth white cardstock.  I bumped my photo strips up on foam and then layered the stamped cardstock beneath it.

I bumped my puppies up on foam and added one to each rectangle in the photo strip.  I finished the layout off with some embellishing, a title, and some splatters.

Thanks for stopping by!

xo, Kira

Wow!! Your layout is a beautiful work of art! The coloring you did on the Bork pups looks like you’ve been using Copics for years!
